Senior Java Backend Engineer (Freelancer) - Webflux

Role Overview:

I am seeking a seasoned freelance Java Backend Engineer for a challenging role at one of our leading clients in the field of e-commerce and technology. This role focuses on developing and maintaining microservices for an online logistics application used by SME customers globally.

  • Profile: Senior Java Backend Engineer
  • Location: Remote-flexible (Office in Amsterdam area)
  • Contract: 6 months plus extensions
  • Start date: June 2024
  • Rate: up to €90 p/h

Key Responsibilities:

  • Design and develop reliable and high-performance APIs using Java and WebFlux.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including remote and in-office (Amsterdam-area HQ), to drive innovation.
  • Work end-to-end on features, from requirements to production deployment using Kubernetes in Azure and GitHub actions.
  • Utilize technologies such as Spring Boot, PostgreSQL, Elasticsearch, Event Hubs, and Redis.
  • Implement CI/CD practices and ensure software quality through test-driven development.


  • Extensive experience in Java and WebFlux, with a strong background in backend service development.
  • Proven ability to design scalable and maintainable systems.
  • Experience with modern CI/CD practices and test-driven development.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and a collaborative mindset.
  • Ability to navigate and contribute to cross-team projects and discussions.
