Photonics Engineer - Quantum Computing
Join a cutting-edge team in the forefront of photonic quantum computing! We are a dynamic company, recognized for breaking world records in quantum photonic processors since our establishment in 2019. Now, we're expanding our reach and seeking a skilled Photonics Engineer to join our new subsidiary based in Ulm, Germany.
What You'll Do:
As a Photonics Engineer, you'll play a pivotal role in our engineering team dedicated to developing the next generation of photonic quantum computers as part of DLR's Quantum Computing Initiative. Your responsibilities will span across various aspects, including but not limited to:
- Building optical setups for device characterization and system validation.
- Conducting numerical and theoretical electromagnetic calculations.
- Validating new photonics devices in lab environments.
- Performing device characterization and data analysis.
- Contributing to and managing internal and EU projects.
- Staying abreast of the latest scientific and engineering advancements in photonics and quantum optics.
- Collaborating within a multidisciplinary team comprising electrical engineers and quantum physicists.
- Presenting results at conferences and internal meetings.
We're flexible in tailoring the position based on your level of experience.
What We're Looking For:
- A PhD in Physics, Electrical Engineering, or a related field.
- Relevant technical expertise in integrated photonics or quantum optics.
- Hands-on proficiency in building and modifying optical setups, characterizing photonic devices, and analyzing data systematically.
- Experience with quantum light sources or nonlinear optics is highly advantageous.
- Familiarity with simulation tools such as Lumerical/Comsol for device simulations.
- Knowledge of component designing, including microrings, MZIs, lasers, etc.
- Understanding of foundry services is a plus.
- Strong initiative, critical thinking, and problem-solving abilities.
- Excellent communication skills and a collaborative spirit.
- Passion for innovation and a proactive approach to work.
- Proficiency in English (verbal & written); German language skills are beneficial.
