Company Overview:
My client, a leading global player in the renewable energy sector, specializes in the design and manufacture of direct-drive wind turbines. Established in 2004 and headquartered in the Netherlands, my client operates across Europe, North America, and Asia, offering a comprehensive range of onshore wind turbines known for their efficiency and reliability.
Job Summary:
My client is seeking a Power Systems Engineer to join their team in the Netherlands. In this role, you will be responsible for the design, planning, analysis, and optimization of electrical power systems, with a particular focus on microgrids and islanding operations. You will ensure the reliability and efficiency of power grids, including the generation, transmission, and distribution networks. Additionally, your expertise in switchgear and medium-voltage (MV) transformers will be crucial in enhancing system performance and reliability.
Key Responsibilities:
- Design and develop electrical power systems, with a focus on integrating switchgear, MV transformers, and power converters within DC or AC electrical networks.
- Conduct in-depth simulations and modeling to analyze and optimize power system performance and efficiency.
- Prepare technical specifications, design documentation, test plans, and performance reports, particularly for power cables, protection relays, switchgear, and MV transformers.
- Perform feasibility studies, cost-benefit analyses, and risk assessments for new projects and system upgrades.
- Execute load flow analysis, short-circuit analysis, stability analysis, and harmonic analysis to ensure system reliability.
- Ensure compliance of wind turbine electrical systems and power networks with local, national, and international grid codes.
- Prepare and submit documentation for grid code compliance specific to wind turbines.
- Troubleshoot and resolve issues related to power system operations, ensuring smooth functionality.
- Monitor power system performance, analyze reliability data, and propose enhancements to improve resilience and efficiency.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including mechanical, electrical, and control engineers, to ensure successful project outcomes.
- Stay current with the latest advancements in power systems technologies, renewable energy integration, and industry best practices.
- Provide technical support and training to clients and internal teams on power systems design, operation, and maintenance.
Required Skills and Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Power Systems, or a related field; a Master's degree or relevant certifications are highly desirable.
- At least 3 years of experience in power systems engineering, with a focus on switchgear and MV transformers.
- Proficiency in power systems modeling and simulation tools (e.g., MATLAB/Simulink, PSS®E, ETAP, PSCAD).
- Strong understanding of power electronics, protection relays, and control systems in power applications.
- Experience in integrating renewable energy sources like solar PV and energy storage systems within power infrastructures.
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to interpret complex data and make informed recommendations.
- Strong communication skills, both written and verbal, for collaborating with multidisciplinary teams and preparing technical documentation.
- Knowledge of relevant industry standards, international standards (i.e., IEEE, IEC, UL, CEI 0-16), regulations, and best practices in power systems and renewable energy integration.
Desirable Skills:
- Experience with hardware-in-the-loop (HIL) testing and validation of power systems.
- Familiarity with grid integration and compliance requirements for renewable energy systems.
- Project management experience or certifications.
Work Environment:
- This role involves a mix of office-based work and field testing, including occasional visits to manufacturing sites and testing facilities.
- Collaboration with international teams may require flexible working hours and travel.
What My Client Offers:
- A competitive salary and comprehensive benefits package.
- Opportunities for professional growth and career development within a pioneering company in the renewable energy sector.
- A dynamic, innovative, and supportive work environment committed to advancing sustainable energy solutions and microgrid technology.
