Optical Engineer – On-site Berlin

What you will be doing:

Responsible for developing optical systems and applications, including the design, analysis, and testing of optical properties for connectors, components, and subassemblies. This role focuses on optimizing product design and manufacturing processes while ensuring high-quality testing solutions.

Day-to-Day Responsibilities:

• Engage in projects that influence optical interconnects globally.
• Develop and prototype optical subassemblies.
• Select and evaluate components for optical systems.
• Drive product and process development, transitioning designs from prototype to full-scale production.
• Perform testing and characterization of optical interconnects.
• Provide support for the development of fiber-optical modules and components.
• Create technical reports and specifications to document processes and results.

Requirements:

• Masters degree in Engineering, Physics, Optics or similar
• 3+ years experience working with Optical Components
• Proficiency in setting up semi-automated and automated assembly stations.
• Strong expertise in manufacturing processes for optical components.
• Solid understanding of telecommunication laser sources, detectors, and optical fibres.
• Experience in mechanical design, thermal modelling, and precision alignment.
• Competence in CAD design software (e.g., ProE).
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office, particularly Excel.
• Ability to work independently and manage time efficiently.
• Excellent command of English, both spoken and written.
• Capable of collaborating across different regions and cultural environments.
• A strong drive to implement new processes and bring products to market.

Desired Requirements:

• Strong analytical skills and experience with quality management processes (e.g., Six Sigma).
• Experience with LabView programming.
• Familiarity with software programming languages such as C, C++, and Matlab.
