Operations/Maintenance Safety Specialist (Compressed Air)
Salary/Hourly rate: - $43 - $53ph ($90,000 - $110,000)
Full-Time or Part-Time
Location: Cedar Rapids, IA
Travel: 30%
Accountabilities:
- Conduct on-site inspections and remote monitoring of compressed air system operations.
- Implement preventive, predictive, and proactive maintenance initiatives.
- Ensure compliance with environmental, safety, and quality assurance programs.
- Coordinate plant production and maintenance activities through communication with customers.
- Schedule maintenance for various plant equipment in accordance with business guidelines.
- Perform regular system walkdowns to identify potential issues and abnormalities.
- Coordinate and confirm the completion of scheduled preventive maintenance tasks.
- Uphold a clean and professional installation to maintain facility standards.
- Promptly respond to "Call Outs" to sustain the customer's compressed air supply.
- Cultivate positive relationships with system vendors, manufacturers, and contractors.
- Adhere to proper management of change (MOC) protocols for operating parameters.
- Document preventive maintenance tasks, safety concerns, and inventory levels in weekly reports.
- Travel to different sites as needed
Responsibilities:
- The preferred candidate should hold at least an Associate's Degree in a technical field.
- A demonstrated comprehension of compressed air systems service and operation is essential, encompassing proficiency in handling large centrifugal compressors, air dryers, instrumentation, and PLC/DCS control systems.
- Candidates must possess a practical understanding of electrical principles, particularly in the safe operation and repair of electrical equipment.
- Mechanical aptitude is a prerequisite; candidates should demonstrate basic skills in mechanical system maintenance.
- Proficiency in computer programs is necessary, with the ability to use or quickly learn various software systems employed at the facilities, including, but not limited to, the MS Office suite.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills are imperative, along with the ability to effectively engage with customers and vendors.
- For candidates starting in a part-time capacity, a willingness to transition to a full-time role is expected.
- The role may involve up to 30% overnight travel.
- Compressed Air Systems: Demonstrated expertise in the service and operation of compressed air systems, encompassing large centrifugal compressors, air dryers, instrumentation, and PLC/DCS control systems.
Instrumentation and Electrical: Proficiency in understanding electrical principles in practical scenarios involving the safe operation and repair of electrical equipment.
Mechanical Aptitude: Possession of fundamental skills in mechanical system maintenance.
Computer Programs: Ability to use or quickly acquire proficiency in various software systems utilized at the facilities, including, but not limited to, the MS Office suite.

- Proficiency in writing basic activity reports and, when necessary, updating procedure manuals. The ability to present information effectively and respond to inquiries from associates, managers, and customers. Additionally, the capability to read, analyze, and interpret general technical procedures.
- Mathematical Skills:
- Competence in calculating figures and amounts such as discounts, proportions, percentages, area, and volume. The capability to apply basic mathematical concepts.
- Reasoning Ability:
- Proficiency in solving practical problems and handling a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. The ability to interpret a variety of instructions presented in oral, written, diagram, or schedule form.
