Generator Technician (Diesel and Natural Gas) with Switchgear Experience
Job Overview: We are seeking a skilled Generator Technician with expertise in diesel and natural gas generators, along with proficiency in switchgear systems. The ideal candidate will be responsible for the installation, maintenance, repair, and troubleshooting of generator systems, ensuring their optimal functionality and performance. This position demands a keen eye for detail, strong technical acumen, and the ability to work independently or as part of a team to meet client needs.
Responsibilities:
- Install, commission, and test diesel and natural gas generator systems, including associated switchgear components.
- Perform routine maintenance tasks, such as oil changes, filter replacements, and coolant checks, to ensure generators operate efficiently and reliably.
- Diagnose and troubleshoot mechanical, electrical, and electronic issues with generators and switchgear systems.
- Conduct thorough inspections of generator components, identifying potential faults or areas for improvement.
- Execute repairs and replacements of faulty parts, following manufacturer specifications and safety protocols.
- Collaborate with engineering teams to develop and implement preventive maintenance schedules for generator systems.
- Keep accurate records of maintenance activities, repairs, and inventory of spare parts.
- Provide technical support and guidance to clients on generator operation, maintenance, and safety procedures.
- Stay updated on industry trends, regulations, and best practices related to generator technology and switchgear systems.
- Adhere to company policies, safety standards, and regulatory requirements while performing job duties.
Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent; additional technical certifications or vocational training in electrical or mechanical fields preferred.
- Experience (3+ years) in servicing diesel and natural gas generators, with a focus on installation, maintenance, and repair.
- Strong knowledge of electrical systems, including switchgear, transfer switches, and control panels.
- Familiarity with diagnostic tools and equipment used in troubleshooting generator and switchgear issues.
- Ability to interpret technical drawings, schematics, and manuals to perform maintenance and repairs accurately.
- Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail when diagnosing and resolving generator-related issues.
- Effective communication skills, both verbal and written, to interact professionally with clients and team members.
- Capability to work independently with minimal supervision and as part of a collaborative team environment.
- Willingness to work flexible hours and respond to emergency service calls as needed.
- Valid driver's license and clean driving record.
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to lift and carry heavy objects (up to 50 pounds) and perform tasks requiring physical exertion.
- Comfort working in various environments, including outdoor settings and confined spaces.
- Agility to climb ladders, operate machinery, and maneuver in tight spaces as necessary.
